A Report On C-E Translation Of The Courseware Of Hybrid Rice Seed Production

As an informative text,Hybrid Rice Seed Production is featured with much information, a strong sense of introduction and is compiled with concise language, which is difficult to translate with so many terms on rice, pesticide, chemical fertilizers, diseases and pests, agricultural slogans as well as non-subject and compound sentences.Functional Equivalence Theory, key in Nida’s communicative translation theory, concerns all the meaning, style and readers’ response.Based on this theory, the present thesis discusses specific translation methods and strategies in Hybrid Rice Seed Production from the lexical level, syntactical level and textual level. The writer thinks that clear understanding and concise translation of terms is of great significance for translation of the whole material. When translating related terms, it is required to hold the principle of “concise, professional and consistent”.In addition, as this kind of agricultural scientific texts have strong practicability, conveying of meaning is superior to that of the form.Therefore, when both the content and the form cannot be kept, it needs tobreak the original form of the passage and reorganize sentences to highlight the meaning of the source text.
