Nowadays, with the improvement of comprehensive national strength, China plays an important role in the international society. However, the development of China results in many controversies, and “China Threat Theory” prevails in the international society in particular. Therefore, the necessary communication is especially important. Due to that the report on the work of the government plays a vital role in helping people from all over the world to have a better understanding of China through it, the author chooses Report on the Work of the Government in 2015 as translation study objective to introduce Chinese government better.This paper is a translation report. Firstly, the author briefly introduces the translation task- Report on the Work of the Government in 2015 from the aspects of content, function and characteristic. Through the analysis, the author finds that there are large number of abbreviations in the text, and how to correctly understand and translate these abbreviations influences the translation quality of the whole text to a certain degree. On the basis of this, the author adopts Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory as the guiding principle, and specifically analyzes the translation of abbreviations in the Report on the Work of the Government in 2015. Aiming at the translations of these abbreviations, the authors puts forward to use literal translation, amplification and interpretation methods to guide author’s translation practice. Finally, the author summarizes the translation practice. Through this translation practice, the author has a further understanding of the work of Chinese government; at the same time, the author further improves the translation ability, especially has a deeper feeling of the translation of political texts. However, there are some problems in the author’s translation version, especially the obvious gap between the author’s translation version and the official translation version on the correspondence of content and style, which needs the author to improve in later translation practice. The author hopes this paper can provide reference for colleagues who take up translation in this aspect in the future.
