Research On Interpretation Strategies Of Long And Difficult Sentences In Press Conferences Under Translation Variation Theory

Translation Variation Theory,as a translation theory,has been studied by many scholars with the focus on its application to translation activities.However,the study on employing this theory to guide interpretation is less and so it has a big room to develop.The thesis studies the interpretation strategies of long and difficult sentences in press conferences under Translation Variation Theory.The interpretation of long and difficult sentences in press conferences has been a difficulty all the time,and at the same time,its interpretation efficiency also affects the quality of the whole interpretation.By taking the Chinese long and difficult sentences from Premier’ s press conferences from 2019 to 2021 as examples to implement the case analysis,the thesis categorizes the difficulties in the interpreting the Chinese long and difficult sentences and summarizes the corresponding strategies in dealing with those difficulties under the Translation Variation Theory.Based on the analysis of the characteristics and classification of Chinese long and difficult sentences,the thesis firstly puts the difficulties in interpreting the long and difficult sentences in press conference into different categories,such as the difficulties in interpreting complex long sentences,the difficulties in interpreting idioms and rhetorical sentences.With the guidance of Translation Variation Theory,the thesis makes case analysis to illustrate how the translation variation methods,such as selective interpreting,editing interpreting,reworded interpreting and explanatory interpreting are used to interpret those long and difficult sentences in press conference so as to ensure the quality and efficiency of the interpreting and meanwhile tries to realize its theoretical potential in interpretation study.The thesis discusses how the four translation variation methods of Translation Variation Theory,namely,selective interpreting,editing interpreting,reworded interpreting and explanatory interpreting can resolve the above mentioned difficulties in interpreting long and difficult sentences in Premier’s press conferences from 2019 to 2021.After a simple research of the translation variation methods of Translation Variation Theory in dealing with the long and difficult sentences in press conferences,the author hopes it can offer some pragmatic guidance to the interpreters and researchers.Even so,there is still a large space for improvement in the future.
