News Translation Practice

The source texts are from The Economist. It was the latest news about American mid-term election. The translation mode is English-Chinese.This paper analyzes the relevant texts from the title, words and sentences. It has been found that the news reports in The Economist are characterized by common features, as well as its own characteristics. Then the paper conducts further discussions about difficulties in the translation. This report considers that the translator should use different translation methods, such as literal translation, free translation, and different translating techniques, such as conversion, amplification, omission, division,combination on the basis of Nida’s functional equivalence to make sure that the translation is accurate and vivid.The report suggests that news translation is not only the conversion between two languages, but also requires that the author has an overall understanding of various information. So, the translator needs to master various kinds of knowledge, as well as have long-time earnest learning and constant practice.
