A Study On The Translation Of Political News From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

English news provides an essential access to information for people from English world and people outside of English world. For Chinese readers, it is also a better way to know China on the world’s stage. However, the distinctive differences of language between China and the West make it hard for Chinese readers to get effective information from English news.Therefore, it has a great significance to study English-Chinese news translation.This thesis selects political English news for research subject, the Economist for the specific object. It explores how to achieve functional equivalence between the original English news and Chinese translation at the levels of word and syntax. Under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the author brings forth several translation strategies,for example literal translation, liberal translation and so on. Finally it draws a conclusion that Functional Equivalence Theory can guide the translation of political news with accurate transmission of information.
