This report is about how to cope with the Chinese coordinate constructions in C-E simultaneous interpretation based on the simulated interpretation of the REPORT ON THE WORK OF THE GOVERNMENT of 2014. One of the features of the text is the frequent use of coordinate constructions. The virtues of such constructions, i.e. the balanced structure and compact meaning, compose part of the unique features of the text but are very difficult to manifest themselves at the same time in simultaneous interpretation.Due to cultural and grammatical differences between the two languages, Chinese sentences are loose in structure with the logical relations implied while English ones are compact with the logical relations stated clearly with logical connectives or various subordinate clauses. This paper proposes 2 major difficulties in interpreting such constructions:a. difficulty in transforming syntactic structures; b. difficulty in tackling covert Chinese logical relations. Through careful analysis of the text under the guidance of the Skopos Theory, the author suggests structural adjustments and logical explication be adopted as ways to cope with the aforementioned difficulties to improve the interpretation and achieve better communicative effect.
