C-E Simulated Simultaneous Interpretation Report Of Press Conference On New Urbanization Plan

The original material of the interpretation project is the press conference hosted by the State Council Information Office of the PRC on March 19,2014. A comprehensive analysis of the transcript arouses the author’s awareness that frequent uses of serial verb constructions (Hereafter, SVC) can be notably detected in such press conference speech with its own characteristics of both text and discourse. Accordingly, the author has addressed such major difficulties from SVC interpreting as:(1) Difficulty in interpreting the logic structure of SVC; (2) Difficulty in interpreting the Theme-Rheme structure of SVC.From the perspective of Gile’s Supermemes, the author establishes the Conference Interpreting Processing Mode (Hereafter, CIPM) based on interpreting process. With press conference speech’s dual characteristics of text and discourse, the interpreter is expected to mediate and facilitate audiences’understanding in a communicative event. Hereby, the interpreter can resolve the above two difficulties effectively by CIPM. The following are the details:(1) the adoption of logic patterning and logic reconstructing to resolve the difficulty in interpreting the logical structure of SVC; (2) the adoption of subject amendment and verb ellipsis to resolve the difficulty in interpreting the Theme-Rheme structure of SVC.CIMP is verified to be efficient in resolving the difficulties of conference interpreting of this type. Meanwhile, the strategies provided in this paper can help to augment the interpreters’ field work performance as well as their competence in the future.
