A Report On The Interpretation Of Work Meetings In Foreign-funded Enterprise

This report,based on the author's interpreting practice for the work meetings within a foreign-funded company the author interned in,was written on three of the meeting scenarios.Consisting of five chapters,it introduces the background of the interpretation,the interpreting task and the structure of the report in Chapter One.Pre-interpretation preparation is elaborated in Chapter Two.Chapter Three copes with the interpreting process and case analysis.Interpreting work is evaluated in the fourth Chapter,and the report is concluded in the last chapter.The pre-interpretation preparation is made from five aspects,from full understanding of the theme and topic of the meeting,terminology and background information,communication with the meeting's participants,tools preparation and check of meeting place and equipment,to psychological preparation.The author describes what the interpreting process should be like and how she deals with the interpreting activity,which includes actively processing the information received and using both long-term and shortterm memory in the interpreting.Choice of personal pronoun in the interpreting process is also introduced,as well as problems encountered and coping strategies.In case analysis,specific interpreting strategies including amplification,omission,adaptation and explanation are listed and corresponding cases analyzed along with each strategy.Since the interpreting practice takes place in a work meeting scenario,and due to the fact that the interpreter presents as assistant and translator for one of the meeting's attendees,it is a type of liaison meeting interpreting,which is not as formal as the typical formal conference because it's an internal company meeting.However,it is still serious and formal to some extent because the meeting content is serious discussion about work.The author hopes this report may provide guidance for interpreters who are interested in this field and want to work in a multilingual environment or a foreign enterprise.It is also hoped that they may do a good job and offer better interpreting services.
