A Practice Interpreting Report On Mysterious Xi Xia,Episode1

As a form of sound-image synchronization, documentary is playing a more and more important part in culture output. Through the pictures and commentary,documentary can make people more directly understand China's history, culture and customs, etc. In this report, the author takes the epic documentary Mysterious Xi Xia as the materials for the interpretation practice and sets the performance and experience during this interpreting practice as an example to reflect the whole process by listing and analyzing the problems.Since this documentary is about the history of Xi Xia, the factors that interpreter needs to consider are specific and comprehensive. Before the interpretation, the author searches from the internet and some relevant books to find the materials needed in the task,because there are many unfamiliar names of books and places in the documentary,the interpretation is quite difficult. According to the interpreting experience, the author starts the paper from the analysis of the documentary commentary and elaborates how to play the interpreter's subjective initiative and applies some appropriate techniques during the interpretation to put up an exchange platform between the film and the audience.Besides, the author also explains and summarizes some specific issues in the paper, such as the application of some interpretation techniques,notes taking and how to deal with emergency situations, hoping to offer some references to other interpreters who do the same kind of practice.This paper is made up of three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion.The first part is the introduction, giving explanation on the research background and the realistic value of Mysterious Xi Xia.The second part is the main body. This part includes three chapters:Chapter One is the task description. In this chapter, firstly the author introduces the background of Mysterious Xi Xia and the content of the first episode of it as well as the use of some interpretation techniques and the requirements for the interpreter in simultaneous interpretation and the constraints of interpreter's subjective initiative.Chapter Two is the process description, which analyzes the importance of the pre-preparations before the interpretation,the exertion of the interpreter's subjective initiative and the influence of some other factors,like the author's memories,notes-taking and the preparation of the words that appear in the documentary. The introduction of the interpreting process is in the next part followed by the quality control.Chapter Three focuses on the case analysis. It firstly discusses some interpreting techniques that used during the practice, like the linear and liberal interpretation, besides,the author also introduces the importance of notes taking used in simultaneous interpretation. In the end of this chapter, the author analyzes some errors that appeared in the interpreting process and some strategies on how to deal with emergency situations.The last part focus on the conclusion. The interpreter makes a conclusion in this part,showing that this interpreting practice is to improve the author's interpretation ability. By analyzing the whole interpretation process and experience, the author also concludes a few experiences that worth learning, hoping to offer some references to the other interpreters.
