With the rapid development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, more and more foreign learners learn Chinese and Chinese culture. As a Chinese traditional culture, the art of calligraphy is favored by foreign learners. Most colleges have also opened calligraphy elective courses to meet the learning needs of foreign learners. However, research on calligraphy teaching of Chinese as a foreign language is not mature enough. This paper chooses elementary Chinese calligraphy to research and many kinds of methods are adopted: 1.Collect and analysis the Chinese calligraphy teaching literature. 2. Track and observe the calligraphy class. 3. Interview the calligraphy teachers and foreign learners. 4. Introduce “micro class” to the calligraphy to innovate on the basis of traditional calligraphy teaching and add vitality to the calligraphy class by teaching calligraphy personally.This thesis is divided into five chapters. In the introduction part, the research significance and methods are stated, and the innovation of researchers is also presented. In the first chapter, the significance and value of calligraphy in Chinese teaching as a foreign language is discussed. The researcher puts forward the teaching principles of calligraphy teaching by comparing the differences between Chinese calligraphy teaching and the traditional calligraphy teaching. In the second chapter, teaching preparatory work is discussed. It’s about teaching objective determination, the selection of teaching content and preparation of teaching aids in the calligraphy teaching. The third chapter focuses on the design of the teaching process of the primary calligraphy class in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Primary calligraphy class teaching process can be divided into five sections, they are appreciating section, copying section, writing section, evaluating section and homework section. In different teaching sections, different abilities can be obtained by the learners. From appreciating section, learners’ perception of calligraphy art ability and appreciate ability can be cultivated; copying section can develope learners’ imitate ability; writing ability is trained in writing section; in evaluating section, ability of appreciation and aesthetic be raised again. In the fourth chapter, The researcher put forward “micro class” which can be used in calligraphy class. First, it discussed how to use micro class in calligraphy class and matters about applying it. Second, it discussed the effection of the environment for calligraphy class and methods to practice. The fifth chapter is about an example of calligraphy teaching and analysis for the problems.In short, For exploring the theoretical knowledge and specific practice, this article enrich the connotation of the subject and provide a reference for the teaching of calligraphy in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
