Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting(SI) practice, as one effective approach to SI training, has been widely used in interpreting learning and teaching because of its high degree of authenticity and efficiency. This practice is based on a lecture called “The History of English” by professor Gregory Sadlek, the dean of Humanity and Social Science school in Cleveland State University. By recording his lecture, simulating the SI practice and video recording this practice, the author has made an in-depth reflection on her own SI competence and performance. For the convenience of analysis, the video is transcribed into written form. After analyzing the video and the corresponding transcripts, the author have found many problems such as misinterpretation, information loss and inappropriate expression and then analyzed their causes. At the same time some SI strategies are put forward as possible countermeasures to these problems concerned.This paper is divided into three chapters, excluding the introduction and conclusion. The first chapter mainly aims to describe the task in details, such as the background and requirements of the task, preparation and the interpreting process conducted by the author and feedbacks. The second chapter highlights problem analysis, problems like misinterpretation, information loss and inappropriate expressions, and the causes like poor listening, incompetent short-term memory and lack of encyclopedia knowledge, especially on English linguistic and literature. The last chapter puts forth the relevant solutions like syntactic linearity, supplementation and vagueness in expression, reformulation, and suggestions for improving the SI quality. However, this paper is based on a simulated SI task, which is inevitably different from the real-time experience, so the analysis on the related problems in the practice has its limitations. By the study and analysis on these problems in this practice, the author hopes to provide some reference to those engaged in SI teaching and practicing.
