A Logical Semantic Analysis Of Chinese "Gei" Sentences

In Modern Chinese "Gei" [kei214] have verbs, prepositions, auxiliary three kinds of parts of speech, which made up of "Gei" sentences, and the "Gei" sentence is the commonly used sentence patterns in modern Chinese. As the "Gei" part of speech is rich, use diversity, the "Gei" sentence has a special and complex meaning, which is the key points and difficulties in modern Chinese and teaching Chinese as a foreign language. This article from diachronic aspect and synchronic aspect, the structure of form and semantic feature, and so on various aspects to analyze the "Gei" sentence,which is marked by the character “Gei”, and use the theory and method of logical semantics to describe and analyze the formal of the modern chinese “Gei” sentence’s plentiful semantic connotation. We will discuss and analyze the concrete content from seven aspects:The first chapter is introduction.From two aspects of "Gei" and "Gei" sentence introduces the research status of "Gei" sentence, and introduces the theoretical basis of this article, the research status of logical semantics. Then expounded the research purpose and significance, theoretical methods, the source of corpus of this article.Second chapter is the "Gei" sentence on the synchronic lay, firstly, we describe the "Gei" sentence in modern Chinese mandarin and dialects, which inside the “Gei” word,then we carried on the comparison and analysis, in order to understand the natural language of the word "Gei" sentence, universality and individuality of the modern Chinese word "Gei" sentence analysis to provide a broader background.The third chapter is the "Gei" sentence on the diachronic lay, when we analyze the "Gei" sentence from the synchronic lay, we confirm the research scope of this article is modern Chinese, if we want to have a thorough understanding of modern Chinese words "Gei", we should to understand its historical origin. This chapter combines the predecessors’ research results, explore "Gei" and the origins of the words in the history,we found "Gei" the use of [kei214] began in the Yuan and Ming dynasties, it is widely used in Qing dynasty, "Gei" sentence is synchronous development accordingly.The fourth chapter and the fifth chapter analyzed the "Gei" sentence from two aspects:syntactic and semantic, this section we use a sample analysis method, a convenience sample of Lao She’s 《four generations》, count the "Gei" sentence number and analyze them, we summed up the five sentence structures which is related to "Gei", they respectively are: NS +(V1) +给+ N1 + N2, NS +给+ N1 + V1 + N2, NS + V1 + N2 +给+ N1, NS +给+ VP, NS + VP +给.The five sentence structures of “Gei” implicate different semantic connotations.Chapter 6 analyzed the logic semantics of "Gei" sentence. In this section we use the method of Event semantics and Predicate logic theory, to analyze and describe the logic semantics of "Gei" sentence structure, especially,we did formal analyze and describe for the five patterns of "Gei" sentence structure’s special semantic connotation. We hope to be able to do some basic agent to language information processing research.The last is the conclusion of this article. We sum up the main conclusion of this article firstly, and then put forward some unsolved problems and the direction of the future efforts.
