An affix is an additional component part to create a word and essentially has different meaning with “root word”. Basically, affix has no real meaning and it does not typically form a stand-alone word on its own. Therefore, many new words are formed by adding an affix to the beginning or end of root word and its becomes a new meaning. In the last few years, research focuses on Affix has been increased and paralleled with a development of language( in this case Chinese and Indonesian) hence affix become more wide on its scope.Affixes are divide to plenty of category, depending on their position with reference to stem. Prefix and suffix are extremely common terms usage in Chinese or Indonesian Language. On the one hand, both Chinese and Indonesian Language has same function when created or usage in the word but on the other hand, if we seek about structure, characteristic etc it has also some differences.In Chinese language programme for foreigners, in particularly for Indonesian students who are learning Chinese Language, affix is one of most difficult aspect of learning Chinese. Accordingly, most of Indonesian student face difficulties when study Chinese affix.In regard to the research topic, this thesis will divide into five chapters as a follows;First chapterAs Introduction, the writer will explain why chosen this research topics and some brief information about recent comparative studies research on Affixes from 2 different languages and contemporary research on affix in Chinese language. And at the end of this chapter will explain about the research methodology;Second chapterThis chapter will more focus about origin of affix and detailed explanation about prefix and suffix, both in Chinese and Indonesian language, include definition, main characteristic etc;Third Chapter In this chapter, the writer will analyse the differences and similarities prefix and suffix between Chinese and Indonesian language;Fourth Chapter This chapter, the writer will analyse all facts that found on the research(included questionare,survey) about Indonesian students who are studying Chinese in Intermediate and Advance level. It aims to figure out how Indonesian students in Intermediate and Advance level of Chinese Language programme knows about prefix and suffix and based on that, the writer will also try to find out a main problems why Indonesian Students did a mistake when using prefix and suffix;Fifth Chapter Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation about Teaching in study Chinese Affix.The expectation of this research is can be provides some help for Indonesian students, and also make them more understand in learning Chinese prefix and suffix, besides it could improve their own skill level...
