Novel, as an indispensable partner in people’s life, is often taken along by people whether they are busy or free. However, as a translator, translating novels can not only increase his/her translation ability, but also can provide convenience for others to read. As far as the author is concerned, novel translation has gradually become the first choice for students when they choose the translation project. In the novel Ship for Brains, some local dialects, uncertain vocabularies and difficult sentences often appear. However, due to cultural differences between China and Western countries, the local dialects translation has always been a difficult problem in the process of translation. In the face of such problems, the author adopts corresponding translation strategies and translation skills. Hence, after solving these problems, the author can gain a lot of benefits from it in the future. For novel translation, the most important thing is to keep the whole style consistent and the semantics coherent, which is also a great challenge for translators. Through this practice, the author has deeply realized the importance of ensuring the translation fluent, concise and easy to be understood and avoiding basic errors. Either English-Chinese translation or Chinese-English translation, translators are required to control the quality of the version, ensure the fluency of the text and the normalization of the sentence pattern on the basis of fully understanding the original text. This report is mainly based on the translation practice task of the materials cited in the appendix, which has a total of 15,082 Chinese characters.
