Conference interpretation is quite a complex and important activity, especially on the official diplomatic occasions which require perfect combination of theories and practice by interpreters. As the first systematic interpretive theory in the international interpreting community, the Interpretive Theory of Translation was first established by two professors---Seleskovitch and Lederer in the 1960 s in Paris. The Interpretive Theory of Translation played the most significant role in late 1970 s and early 1980 s.As we all know, the Interpretive Theory of Translation first advocated the dynamic study of interpretation psychology and it had a profound impact on international modern study of interpretation and has been acting as a good example of the combination of theories and practice.Numbers of linguists, experts as well as excellent interpreters have been studying the Interpretive Theory of Translation in order to make it play an irreplaceable role in practical interpretation. From the perspective of the Interpretive Theory, this paper is to introduce the role of theory in official conference interpretation.Starting with the general situation of interpretation study, the paper is to present the development of Interpretive Theory and study the essence and the necessity of applying this theory.Combining the features of official conference interpretation and the requirements for interpreters and the analysis of the example---Foreign Minister Wang Yi's press conference in 2015 during the two sessions, the paper will conclude with the guiding significance of the theory. The paper consists of five chapters.Chapter One gives a general introduction of this paper.Chapter Two is the literature review section, mainly introducing the study of interpretation theory at home and abroad, the development of the Interpretive Theory of Translation and the official conference interpretation respectively.Chapter Three introduces the theoretical framework of this paper, illustrating the necessity of applying the Interpretive Theory by analyzing the standards, values and requirements of translation.Chapter Four introduces the official conference interpretation, the features of it and the requirements for the interpreters as well as the analysis of the example---Foreign Minister Wang Yi's press conference in 2015 during the two sessions. This chapter lists six methods of Interpretive Theory of Translation to demonstrate the significant role in official conference interpretation.Chapter Five is the conclusion including the achievements made by the author and problems that occurred.
