This is a translation project report on Chapter V of Magic for Marigold writtenby Lucy Maud Montgomery, the title of which is The Door that Men Call Death. Thistranslation project is done on the basis of E. A. Nida’s "Reader’s Response Theory".This report mainly discussed how to do the speech translation of Great Grandmotherand make the translation more casual under the guidance of three principles: to makeit colloquial, to coincide with the identity and status of the characters, to coincide withcertain circumstances and occasions in order to draw the same response from thereaders of the translation text and the readers of the source text. |
