With the rapid development of culture, it has become an inexorable trend to introduce China to the world. So literary works play an important role in transmitting Chinese culture-loaded terms to other foreign countries.Under the further study of translation, more and more scholars make great effort to study the relationship between literary works and Adaptation Theory, at the same time, there are some studies on the translation of Moment in Peking. But most of the scholars focus on the Chinese translation of the work or from other views. Analyzing the choice-making and strategies-making in translating Chinese culture-loaded terms into English with the help of the original literary work Moment in Peking in light of Adaptation Theory is the key point of this paper.Content framework in this research is divided into five parts, using the methodology of case study to collect examples and analyze. Firstly, the paper introduces the research background, research purpose, research method, research significant and research questions.Secondly, the author reviews the present researches on the using of Adaptation Theory in translation and the study of Moment in Peking. Thirdly, the author makes detailed introduction about the theoretical framework of Adaptation Theory and states the importance of this theory in translation. Fourthly, the author divides all the Chinese culture-loaded terms in Moment in Peking into seven categories, and gives detailed analysis of translation strategies about each category, then explored the connection between Adaptation Theory and the choice-making of translation strategies, and pointed out the adaptability of the choice-making of translation strategies. Fifthly, the author summarizes the analysis and makes a conclusion.Through the thorough analysis, the author concludes that Lin Yutang makes great use of foreignization to adapt material culture, linguistic culture, social culture, but uses domestication to the idioms which western readers cannot understand easily. The translation not only adapt to the readers’ physical world, mental world and social world, but also adapt to the translator’s purpose. And the adaptability of Adaptation Theory makes the translators choose translation strategies which can transmit Chinese culture-loaded terms more flexible.Adaptation Theory has momentous influence on the translation of Chinese culture-loaded terms. Culture translation is a process of making choice, no matter which translation strategies the author uses, it reflects the adaptability between the translator and the reader. Finally, the author hopes to make a little bit valuable advises for the researches in this field.
