Language has unique essential properties. In last century, natural language was found to be featured with redundancy, ambiguity and generativity. The study on the redundancy of language is not only valued in language field, but also in translation field. Translation is a kind of linguistic practice in which languages, thoughts and cultures transform into each other and finally enable social interaction. An important factor for guaranteeing such interaction activity is the objective existence of redundant information. Starting from theory of information, and based on specific cases, this paper explores the linguistic characteristics of Chinese and Uigur, aiming to offer a reference strategy for addressing redundant information in translation between Chinese and Uigur. This paper is composed by five chapters. Chapter one is introduction, which points out the current situation of study on redundant information in translation between Chinese and Uigur, and specifies the research thought, approach, purpose and meaning of this paper. Chapter two elaborates the source of redundant information-- theory of information. It analyzes the influence of theory of information, defines and discusses the redundant information and its functions, thus to provide theoretic support for this paper. Chapter three discusses the ubiquitous redundancy in Chinese and Uigur and the similarities and differences of the distribution of redundancy between these two languages in detail from perspectives of semantics, pragmatics and grammar. With combining translation cases, various kinds of translation strategy have been summarized for addressing different redundant information. Based on the findings of above three chapters, chapter four explains how to add or delete redundant information with using specific examples of translation between Chinese and Uigur, and finally achieve the goal of equivalent redundancy in translation. Chapter five summarizes the research result of this paper, affirms the positive effect of theory of redundancy in translation process, and points out the limitation of this research and offers suggestion for further improvement. All in all, in the practice of translation between Chinese and Uigur, it’s a must to delete excessive redundant information and retain valuable ones based on the context, thus to achieve the goal of equivalent redundancy in translation.
