With the rapid development of society and the economy, the status of China has been raised internationally. More and more foreigners have chosen to develop their careers in China. However, once they become sick, going to a Chinese hospital is inevitable. Language is the bridge of communication, and language barriers have become a big obstacle to both doctors and patients. This report describes the interpreter’s experience as the mouthpiece for doctor and patients. The interpreter was entrusted by a doctor working in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Cancer Hospital in 2015, doing consecutive interpreting work for conversations between the doctor and the patients.Medical interpreting is a relatively new field, a professional service happening in special situations. Compared with other interpreters, medical interpreters face more difficulties and risks, and they bear more physical and mental stress. This report is based on the experience of the interpreter and consists of interpretation task description, process description, case analysis and interpretation conclusion. The interpreter discovered proper interpretation methods and deficiencies throughout the case analysis.According to the interpretation process description and the case analysis, this report summarizes the following three points. Firstly, pre-interpretation preparation plays an important role in the medical interpreting task. Secondly, proper translation methods can enrich patient satisfaction and ensure good reputation for the doctor. Finally, medical interpreting involves high professionalism. Interpreters should pay careful attention to improving their professional skills in order to offer better interpretation service. The methods summarized in this report will hopefully aid other interpreters to improve their medical interpreting skills in the future.
