A Research On New Monosyllabic Extreme Complements Of Degree In Modern Chinese

The category on the degree is a key one in the semantic category system of anthropic language. New monosyllabic extreme complements of degree is an important part of it. This thesis tries to define these new monosyllabic extreme complements of degree, analyze them from the level of syntax, semantics and pragmatics and study the source of them. This thesis has five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction which mainly introduces the object and significance of the study, previous studies, methods, and corpus sources, etc.The second chapter defines grammatical attributes of new monosyllabic extreme complements of degree, describes their new meanings and functions and compares them with typical extreme complements of degree “ Ji(极) ”.The third chapter investigates how new monosyllabic extreme complements of degree choose the words before them and the attributes of the structure which they make together. A large number of facts show that new monosyllabic extreme complements of degree always combined with adjectives, verbs and nouns which have quantifiable semantic features. The structure they make mainly acts as the predicate and it can combine with different parts of speech.The fourth chapter talks about the cause of new monosyllabic extreme complements of degree from pragmatic, cognitive and social perspective.
