Research On Wuhu Consumption In Modern Times(1876-1949)

Producing, distributing, exchanging and consuming are always four important links of social production and social life. And as an important link of it, consume plays an important role in promoting human society. Consuming is an important economic phenomenon in daily life, and it is a cultural phenomenon. Consuming is an important power for promoting the development of economic and promoting the social progress. So it is very important to study the problem of consuming. In this article, taking Wuhu local chronicles and newspaper as the basic data, combined with related research to study the consume problem of Wuhu in the modern times. Five parts are included in this paper.The first part discussed the consume background factors of Wuhu in the modern times. They are port opening of Wuhu and the rice market of Wuhu. The two factors promote the addition of consumer goods, the development of industrial and commercial, the increase of population, the development of city consumption, the change of people’s consumption idea and the social development of Wuhu. And even make Wuhu become a consumer city to some extent.The second and the third parts discussed the consumption of basic material and the social and cultural of Wuhu in the modern times. Food, clothing, live and travel are included in the consumption of basic material. The consumption of marriage, funeral, drama and festival, cultural and education are included in the consumption of social and cultural. The consumption of basic material is necessary for survival. But the consumption of social and cultural belongs to the developmental consumption, with a certain social.The fourth part researched the consumption of deformity, and including the consumption of opium, gamble and sexual. The consumption of deformity is different from the consumption of basic material and the social and cultural. There is no benefits that the consumption of deformity.And the fifth part analyzed the influence factors of Wuhu consumption problem, the poverty of farmer and worker, the disaster of the soldiers, the natural disasters and the bankruptcy of countryside becomes the factors that influence the consumer problem of Wuhu in the modern times. And making most people still stays at a lower level of consumption in the modern times.
