Based On Cross-cultural Theory, Study On The Factors Of Anxiety And Uncertainty

Based on Anxiety and Uncertainty Management Theory of William B.Gudykunst, this paper will do a case analysis on the cultural conflict and integration from classic movie 《Gua Sha Treatment》 to discuss how the anxiety and uncertainty factors affect communication. This will not only let us know the measures they have taken when facing cultural conflict in film, but also provide some methodological guidance for other communicators who live in a foreign country.This paper has two creative points:One is new view of point,which focus on the anxiety and uncertainty of the communicator, another is a new research method, which use AUM theory to analyze the movie to clear the communication process which is hard to be observed and quantified.Introduction.Mainly explain the study background, the current research situation of this issue and research methods this paper used,which include a historical review of the development of Cross-cultural Theory.Chapter one briefly describes the main plots of 《Gua Sha Treatment》and the main viewpoint of AUM theory.Chapter two mainly analyzes the cases in the film.It is divided into two parts: The first part is the case analysis of unsuccessful communication,focusing on the factors of anxiety and uncertainty in the culture shock and conflict. The second part is the case analysis of successful communication,focusing on the methods for managing anxiety and uncertainty. The content involve in “self and self-concept”,“mindfulness”,“interaction motivation”,and “interactions with local people” of AUM theory.Chapter three adopt the analysis of chapter two, and make a conclusion about the connection among Anxiety、Uncertainty and Individual Adaptability、Group Difference、Positive Expectation、Moral Inclusion during the cross cultural communication. Then, providing a direction and inspiration to solve the cultural conflict.Chapter four will combine the AUM theory and the analysis above to actually propose some suggestions for achieving valid communication during the preparation period and processing period of cross cultural communication.Finally, according to the analysis of this research, making a brief conclusion of this research.
