This thesis is a report on the Chinese-English translation of part of the Report on the Development of Household finance in Rural China (2014). The text aims at inspecting micro economic and financial behavior of Chinese household and individual and its influence imposed on macro economy. The translation task is assigned by the Survey and Research Center for China Household Finance at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and the author is honored to be in charge of the task and join in the translation team of three other students, one senior teacher and one economic specialist.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the author adopted various translation strategies in the translation process so as to achieve the goal of functional equivalence between the source text and target text. In this report, the author presents part of the translation task as the case, analyzes the problems arising in the translation process, studies translation strategies and methods and summarizes implications and reflections on the translation task as a reference for translating text of similar types.This thesis is divided into five parts:the first chapter is the introduction of the translation task, including the background introduction, significance and requirements of the translation task; the second chapter describes the translation process, including pre-translation preparations, implementation and post-translation proof-reading; the third chapter is the theoretic guidance of this translation task; the forth chapter is the case study, which analyses the translation strategies the author adopted in dealing with problems in the process of translation at lexical, syntactical and textual level respectively; the fifth chapter summarizes the major implication, problems and reflections and suggestions of the translation task. It is expected that this report may of some value for future translators to realize that they shall make full use of various aiding resources, increase cross-discipline knowledge, improve professional cultivation and maintain active communication with clients, to produce better translations with high efficiency and quality.
