A Report On The Translation Of Highway Tanks And TC Portable Tanks For The Transportation Of Dangerous Goods(Excerpts)

This report is about translation of operation instructions of tanks used for the transportation of dangerous goods. As an English for Science Technology(EST) text, the instruction can be classified as an informative text. The main purpose of translating this kind of text is to help Chinese readers understand the meaning of the source text just like the original readers. So Chinese readers can master foreign skills and operate machines properly.In the translation process, the author stresses characteristics of English for science and technology, such as concise language, precise structure and objectiveness. There are many professional terms, passive sentences and long sentences in the source text; the author adjusts them according to Chinese characteristics for the sake of Chinese readers. Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory is adopted as guidance.This report is divided into four parts. The first part is a brief introduction to the source text and the task background. And the author puts forwards several suggestions for the translation of EST texts as well.
