This is a report on the translation of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act,1992,which is an act on a unified management of transportation of dangerous goods. The lexical reiteration and long sentences are frequently used in this Act.When translating the lexical reiteration, the author notices that it is difficult to ensure the appropriateness of the translation and avoid redundancies. At the same time, long sentences in this Act are characterized by complicated structures and contain an amount of information, which poses a great challenge to the author. Therefore, this translation report mainly focuses on translation techniques of lexical reiteration and long sentences in Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act,1992.The author presents four translation techniques--omission,repetition,substitution and condensation to deal with lexical reiteration in this Act and elaborates five translation techniques--sequential translation, inversion, division, insertion and reconstruction to deal with long sentences in this Act.The author hopes to offer some useful reference for translators who are confronted with lexical reiteration and long sentences in the translation of legislative texts in the future, and meanwhile provide an in-depth understanding of transportation of dangerous goods for people who are engaged in this activity in China.
