As important components of tourism, travel agencies, starred hotels and tourist attractions’ spacial distribution has significant effect on the healthy and sustainable development of tourism. Currently Chongqing takes tourism as a strategic pillar industry in the new thirteenth five-year plan. It is helpful to carry out a systematic research on the characteristics of the spacial distribution of Chongqing’s tourism enterprises in both macroscopic and medium-microscopic aspects for better placement of tourism enterprises as well as government’s better planning and regulation of local tourism policy.This research adopts methods such as geography concentrate index, rank-size law,Lorenz curve, spacial analysis and spacial distribution density index to conduct research on the spacial homogeneity, the spacial distribution density and the scale and structure of Chongqing’s three types of tourism enterprises, i.e. travel agencies, tourist attractions and starred hotels, and on the distribution characteristics of tourist attractions and starred hotels of different grades. Based on former relevant theories, the reasons of spacial distribution characteristics of Chongqing’s tourism enterprises are discussed combining quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis from five aspects such as economics, governmental management and regulation, transportation, regional position and resources. The following conclusions are drawn:( 1) The spacial distribution of Chongqing’s tourism enterprises shows the following characteristics: high concentration, strong imbalance and significant difference of spacial distribution gradient; relatively large difference of spacial distribution and small spacial service range; high monopolization of capital area,disperse and diverse distribution of market scales; high concentration and large difference of spacial distribution of tourist attractions and starred hotels’ spacial distribution. Yuzhong District has the largest number of tourism enterprises and highest concentration as well as highest monopolization. Other urban areas, i.e. Jiangbei District,Nan’an District, Yubei District, Jiulongpo District, Changshou District and Fuling District also have high concentration. In remote regions, such as Xiushan in Southeast Chongqing and Beichengkou in North Chongqing, the enterprises there have large difference of spacial distribution and small spacial service range.(2)The reasons for the characteristics of the spacial distribution of Chongqing’s tourism enterprises include five main aspects such as economics, governmental management and regulation, transportation, regional position and resources. The unbalanced spacial distribution of travel agencies, starred hotels and tourist attractions is rooted in regional economic development, transportation and position. The characteristics of different spacial distribution is under the influence of resources and position. Government planning and regulation affects every region’s development of tourism enterprises.
