Climate change has been exerting extensive impact on human development. The translation of Climate Change and Human Development helps to introduce the Western research in this field to China. The translation of this book is guided by Katharina Reiss’ text typology theory. As a science report on climate, the source text aims for the popularization of the science in climate changes. In accordance with Katharina Reiss’ classification of text types, this book is an information-loaded text, which means that the information and readability of the target text should be emphasized. Therefore, explicitation is used in the translation. For this sake, both literal translation and free translation are used to make a plain, clear and readable translation.Based on the translation practice, this report describes the translation task and its process, analyzes the difficulties the translator encounters and summarizes translation methods and skills. The report mainly consists of four parts. The first part is a brief description of the translation task, consisting of an introduction to the source material, to the author of the book and to the book itself. The second one is a report on translation process, which includes preparation and revision. The most important part is the case studies on the level of lexis, syntax and discourse, and specific translation skills are provided here. The last part is a summary of the translation of this book and the demands to be a professional translator.
