This is an E-C translation and report on The Wright Brothers, which is a biography novel. The translator chooses the second part of this novel (Chapters 5-8) as the source text. The second part of this novel mainly tells us a legend story of the Wright brothers, who finally successfully invented the Flyer to Flyer 3 after a series of experiments and setbacks. The report includes four parts:the introduction to translation project, the background information of the source text, the translation difficulties and methods, and the conclusion of this translation project. This report, in the first place, elaborates the objectives and significance of this translation project by introducing its background information. Then, it presents a brief introduction to the source text background in terms of the author and the contents and language style. Chapter 3 is the highlight of the report where the translator illustrates and analyses translation difficulties and the corresponding translation methods the translation has tentatively adopted. For example, in dealing with vacancy of words meanings which is caused by the differences between English and Chinese cultures, the methods of words borrowing and annotation are used; for long sentences of high occurrence rate, the skills of splitting translation and recasting translation are adopted. In the last part of this report, the translator concludes the translation experience gained from this translation project, and points out what the translator should endeavor to improve. This translation report provides a reference for other translators while translating English biography novels into Chinese, and renders Chinese readers a reading material of Wright brothers’ braveness and persistence in dream.
