This is an E-C translation report. This selected source text named The Wright Brothers was written by the famous American author David McCullough. The book was published by Simon & Schuster Publisher in 2015. It mainly tells us how the two brothers go through difficulties to invent the most amazing inventor in humans’ history. Meanwhile, it shows highly lauding for the Wright brothers’ straightforwardness, intelligence and tenacity. The translator selected Chapters 9-11 of this book to do the translation practice. The content of excerpt translation:after the success of flyer, the Wright brothers took a lot of flight demonstration in France and America successively. Although serious accident happened to Orville in the demonstration, the Wright brothers finally won the approval from world. Since then, the Wright brothers have become so successful and gained quite a reputation.The report, in the first place, elaborates the objectives and reasons for this translation project by introducing its background information. Then, it presents a brief introduction to the source text background in terms of the author and the contents. The report focuses on the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation process and translation methods the translator has tentatively adopted. For example, in dealing with the assurance of time line and translation of technical terms, the method of grooming and listing are used; in dealing with the translation of proper names, literal translation with annotation are used; for long and complex sentences, the method of splitting are used; to maintain the consistency of language style, four-character translation skill are adopted. In the last, the report summarizes the conclusion concerning what has been gained from this translation practice and what needs to be improved.
