This is a translation project.The source text of this report is based on the twelfth and thirteenth chapter of the book,The Uncertain Future of American Public Higher Education,which is written by Daniel M.Johnson,a famous American educationalist and the former president of the Toledo University.This book introduces some defects underlying the American public higher education system.Based on the defects,the author analyzed the causes and consequences,and gave his opinions to parties involved.This project aims to introduce the real situation of American public higher education and the thoughts of a senior educationalist from the US,offering references for the reform of the higher education system in China.And hopefully,this project can be a proper example for domestic scholars who are studying American higher education system.Guided by communicative translation theory put forward by Peter Newmark,the translator conducted linguistic analysis and a translation based on the translation practices of his own,aiming to convey information to target readers as accurately and clearly as possible.The translator shares the difficulties encountered during the process of translating,including the comprehension and translating of proper names,idioms,and long and complexed sentences.The corresponding techniques the translator uses to solve the problems and ensure the accuracy include amplification and annotation,division and combination,as well as conversion and inversion.At the end of the report,the lessons gained and the problems unsolved are concluded. |
