Coordinative compound word, also named as linked polysyllabie word and coordinative polysyllabic word, and this thesis researches on the coordinative compound words in Shiji. Until now, although there are many outstanding researches on the words in Shiji, the system of research on Shiji is still inadequate. This thesis aims at studying the syntagmatic relation of inner morpheme and the relation between meanings of words and morpheme. By studying the composition of those coordinative compound words in Shiji to preliminarily infer the stability of words composition in West Han dynasty. In the meantime, this research can make contribution to the improvement of words system in Shiji.The first chapter is the introduction of the research achievements and inadequate parts on the words in Shiji, the research methods and targets and the way to define the two-syllable word.The second chapter focuses on studying the way to compose the coordinative polysyllabic word in three aspects:(1) Relations of inner meanings and morphemes, and they will be divided into three categories of words: synonymy, synonymity and antonymy.(2) the relation between the words meaning and morpheme meanings can also be divided into three categories: The meaning of a word lays on the combination of two morphemes, partially-directed compound word refers to those whose meaning is resembled by one of the two morphemes, whereas substantive compound word derives its meaning from the extended meaning of the two combined morphemes.(3)The analysis of words composition: the part-of-speech of compound word should be as same as composed morphemes;but this thesis aims at studying the exceptions on it.The third chapter focuses on three characteristics of Coordinative compound word,which are:the flexibility of morpheme composition; the coexistence of synonymous monosyllable and two-syllable word; the existence of some nvers emoprhemes words.The fourth chapter concentrates on the development of coordinative compound words in Modern Chinese of Shiji, especially on the extinction, the change of part-of-speech and meaning of words.
