This is a translation project report on Direct and mediated effects of language and cognitive skills on comprehension of oral narrative texts (listening comprehension) for children, which is excerpted from Journal of Experimental Child Psychology. It is a journal devoted primarily to reports of empirical work on behavioral and psychological development. The source text mainly concerns the direct and mediated relations of foundational cognitive skills (working memory and attention), foundational language skills (vocabulary and grammatical knowledge), and higher-order cognitive skills (inference, theory of mind and comprehension monitoring) to listening comprehension through empirical studies. To solve difficulties in the translation, the translator adopted many practical translation strategies under the guidance of skopos theory, such as addition, conversion, free translation, division and combination. By means of the report the translator has clearly understood the prominent guidance of translation theory and the importance of preparation, especially of background information. Additionally, a point has been recognized that translation of high quality is related to the high sense of responsibility and repeated modification.
