This is a report on translation of Establishing Self-Access From Theory toPractice (Chapter6-7) written by David Gardner and Lindsay Miller. There are a lot ofterms and long difficult sentences, and the expression is quite rigorous. Due to thedifferences between English and Chinese, the translator chooses different methodsaccording to different words and sentences. The translator’s cognitive psychology isreflected by the choices between different methods. Therefore, the report is carried outunder the guidance of cognitive psychology of translation. The report makes acomparison between the two languages, meanwhile, it expounds and analyses thedifficulties that have appeared in the process of translating, aiming to explore the bestway of translating the informative text.The report consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction, including thebackground, the aim, the significance, and the structure of the translating project report.The second part is the background of the report, which provides information of theauthor, the structure of the original text, the content and the analysis of the linguisticcharacteristics. The third part focuses on the difficulties that have appeared in theprocess of translation and probes translation methods. The fourth part is the summary,such as inspiration, lessons and experience the translator gets from the report.
