Traditional Handicraft And The Change Of Public Life

This thesis takes Linqing tribute brick firing technique for example and focus on the folklore subject (the research and discussion on people) from the perspective of folklore. The public life and mentality tied to the tribute brick firing technique is analyzed based on the deep descriptions of development and change of tribute brick firing technique through the various historical stages.This thesis is divided into five parts. First, The introduction is on the genesis, academic summary and research methods. Next, the firing technique of the tributary bricks is given back to the context, which mainly includes natural environment and social environment. Chapter two focus on the object of study of the thesis-- Linqing tribute brick firing technique. The cumbersome and fine production process, the inheritence and the current situation of the skill are introduced in detail. The tribute brick production in the process of historical changes from Ming and Qing dynasties and the Republican period to the extablishment of new China is deeply descriped in Chapter three. The whole historical development vein of tribute brick production is presented. The socail change and state power’s invisible mainpulation of traditional handicraft in the process of historical development of modern society is revealed hereby. At last, chapter four focus on the public which is the way of inheritance and the audience crowd. The influence of the tribute brick firing technique in the process of historicalchange on the public life and the public understanding and memory of the skill in different historical periods are analyzed according to the representation of the public life and spirit.In a word, as a case study of handicrafts, this thesis is intended to highlight the production subjet of handicrafts and daily life construction of the production subject. The daily life logic of the production subject is represented and the interactive game process between state and the masses is demonstrated.
