The Research Of The Commercial Development And Urban Evolution Of Lhasa During The Period Of Qing Dynasty To The Republic Of China

Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the transition period of Chinese traditional society to the modern society is an important stage can’t be ignored, it is also true for the Xizang’s community. During this period, Lhasa was established the basic pattern. Guide by the theory of historical urban geography and urban history, based on the previous studies, this paper on the basis of the historical documents, from the perspective o history, sociology and other disciplines, by using comparison, chart described, case analysis and other research methods, scientific analysis of relationship between the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China of Lhasa’s commerce and the city.Firstly, this paper discusses the rise of Lhasa city geography foundation and early development, focuses on the content of Lhasa city in which the situation of macro and micro geographic characteristics, historical background and early Lhasa agriculture, handicraft industry and business development;Secondly,discusses the general situation of Lhasa city commercial development during the period of Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China,including the advantages of business development, commercial development stage, the main circulation of good, Merchant constitution and operational characteristics;Then, discusses the contents of public facilities, commercial facilities, cultural facilities, and urban space structure under the commercial impact of Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. Moreover, investigated the population and life changes under the influence of business, including the number of population, urban workers,and the change of physical and customs and so on.According to the article, from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the development of the commercial influenced Lhasa’s space structure evolution, improved the urban functions, prompted the population scale expansion and the professional division of diversity, enriched the social material life and spiritual life. But also need to see that commercial development just as one of the key elements, and can’t ignore other factors’ effect. At the same time, there is a big gap between the mainland city and Lhasa’s business development. To a certain extent, Commerce has played a greater role in promoting urban development and social life in Lhasa.
