Comparative Study On Viewpoints Of Literary History Between The Early Tang Historians And The Literati

Literature in the Early Tang Dynasty was influenced by the Six Dynasties style of writing. The litterateurs expressed their views of literary history by the value of elegant legitimism which was presented by the governor. According to the interviews of pre-literature, the litterateurs put forward the view on Literature “combine form with content and blend the north-south style” and described the future of the literature in the early Tang Dynasty. The litterateurs in the Early Tang Dynasty, especially the Four-talented Poets and Chen Zi-ang, who continued to explore the literary development model on the basis of the early historians. They came up with a new energetic style of writing with the method of criticizing and inheriting all previous dynasties scholar style. In these new methods, Chen Zi-ang’s theory— "Fenggu" and "Xingji" added a new strength to the Tang Dynasty literature. The litterateurs in the Early Tang Dynasty put the theory into writing. The new style of writing created by litterateurs laid a solid foundation for the prosperity of Tang dynasty literature and had a great effect on the arriving of Tang dynasty.This paper mainly discussed from three aspects:The first part concludes the similarities on viewpoints of literary history between the early Tang historians and the literati. They both emphasize the function of politics. And the value of elegant legitimism is their common standard. So they criticized the influence left by the Six Dynasties fiercely.The second part analyzes the differences on viewpoints of literary history between the early Tang historians and the literati. Both of them evaluated of past dynasties literary styles, they have different opinions on the problem. For the past dynasties literary styles, they have a big difference on critical 、 inheritance 、self-consciousness and so on.The third part is the rethinking of comparative study on the viewpoints of literary history between the early Tang historians and the literati. Their literary proposition set up by criticism of the former generation of literary style and inheritance,they put the theory into practice. The new literary style build by the early Tang literati is the prelude to literary of tang dynasty.
