Wang Zengqi is a writer, whose works have achieved a high level in his early age, as well as his great influence in his old age. He gave profound impact to contemporary Chinese literature with the unique literary works, unique concept of life and the unique artistic spirit. Wang Zengqi had gained a lot of praises in his life, such as the final pure writer in China, the last scholar-bureaucrat in China and Chinese lyrical style of humanitarian. Wang Zengqi created something new and original in his novels in the specific literary trends at that time, his novels such as Become a Buddhist Monk, Keep a Record of Events at Da Nao with natural and fresh style into serious depressing literary world and attracted the attention of many scholars. The critical tend to define the characteristics of Wang zengqi’s novels by "harmony" and "warm" ,while the author have read throughout his novels,and consider that it is incomplete to regard his novels as "harmony", and "sweet". The author can feel suffering behind the "harmony" and "warm" after reading the novel. Wang Zengqi’s novels shows concern and compassion for those people who suffered a lot in his works, such as The Dew, Keep a Record of Events at Da Nao, A Fishing Person, The Job, and so on. Wang Zengqi didn’t use too piercing, bitter words to describe the story of his sufferings, joy and sorrow in the ways of life which are hidden in plain narrative.So we often need to read through his deceptive ease, and discriminate feelings and intentions in his works by heart. The discussion based on Wang Zengqi’s novels that reveal various performances of suffering, art of narrative and his lyric humanitarian concern, at which discuss Wang Zengqi’s suffering for literary creation, individual life care and the writer’s personal significance.The process of this thesis is divided into three parts, namely, introduction, the main body and the conclusion. The introduction part discusses the course of Wang Zengqi’s novel writing, reviews the current research status of Wang Zengqi’s novels and the existing problems, Aiming at the shortcomings of the existing data, this paper puts forward the viewpoint of this paper, and expounds the research angle of view and the significance of this study. There are five chapters in the main body of the text. The first chapter combines with Wang Zengqi’s novels, the expression of the suffering theme presented in many aspects, which mainly includes survival difficulty, women’s tragic fate, ethics, and institutional violence four types of suffering. The second chapter, from the narrative point of view, discusses narrative strategy and artistic effect of hidden plot, the children’s perspective and the folk position in Wang Zengqi’s novels. The third chapter, on the basis of revealing the suffering probe into the way of salvation of Wang Zengqi’s Novels, focuses on the performance of the suffering people’s mental state. The fourth chapter, taking Wang Zengqi’s life experience and ideological education and other factors as the breakthrough point, discusses the origin of Wang Zengqi’s suffering Novels. The fifth chapter, discusses Wang Zengqi’s attitude towards suffering, That is to say the aesthetic meaning and cultural meaning of the suffering theme in Wang Zengqi’s Novels. The conclusion part carries on the horizontal comparison with the same kind of works, expound and elaborate the subject value of Wang Zengqi’s suffering theme in novel creation.Wang Zengqi’s concern and thinking about suffering is the expression of his "lyrical humanism". In the face of life’s hardships situation, he to bitterness in the positive attitude for life meaning, to the reader passed out humanitarian feelings of compassion. Review of literature in the context of suffering in his novels, it increasingly shows its deep cultural heritage.
