A Person Who Is A Storyteller:The Psychobiographical Study On Mo Yan’s Literary Achievement

Mo Yan is the first Chinese writer who has won the Nobel Prize in Literature. In this study, we adopted pyschobiographical method to analyze why he could obtain such a success in writing based on his writings, autobiography, and others’words. To achieve this goal, this study was composed of following two specific studies:Study one aimed to explore Mo Yan’s subconscious writing motivation. The results indicated that, in the childhood, high quality mother-child attachment relationship has been established between Mo Yan and his mother, but low evaluation and social comparison brought about his sense of inferiority, the sense of inferiority pushed him to seek to transcend and change the reality, which might get the approval from his mother. Later, he found that his ability to tell stories brought great happiness for his mother and other people who like mother, and could get her approval. This pointed out the best way to get his mother’s approval for him, and in this process, Mo Yan displayed his talent, realized his own value, overcomed his inferiority, and repayed mother’s loving-kindness. That try to get mother’s approval is what Mo Yan writes for.Based on the study one, study two further explored the typical personality of Mo Yan inhis successful writingroad. The results showed that, behaviors in his experience of schoollifeandwriting life, typical literary figures in Mo Yan’s novels, and other’s words of Mo Yan all reflected that Mo Yan’s personality is hardy personality. That is to say,Mo Yan had clear goals in difficulties, what’s more, he was good at self control and didn’t afraid challenges, and he was persistent and resilient when he was seeking his goals, and that reached them. Based on this personality, Mo Yan went to college at last and became a writer, and he dared to stick to himself when he was writing, then he could achieve his literary achievement ealizer.In conclusion, eager to get mother’s approval and hardy personality both played important roles in the process of seeking literary achievement of Mo Yan. On the way of writing,eager to get mother’s approval was Mo Yan’s subconscious motivation, and it reinforced Mo Yan’s hardy personality.Hardy personality ensured Mo Yan’s every steps of success and ensured the access of getting mother’s approval. In short, eager to get mother’s approval and hardy personality are the two clues that helped Mo Yan achieve his literary success in term of psychological reasons, and the two clues are influenced and promoted each other in the process of development.
