A Psychobiographical Study Of Jeme Tien Yow's Personality

Jeme Tien Yow (1861-1919), eleven-years-old Jeme was chosen by the Qing imperial officials to be sent to the United States for education, in 1881, Jeme Tien Yow received Yale University bachelor's degree, he's major was Civil Engineering and railroad construction. Jeme was engaged in the railway industry for a lifetime, Presided over and the construction of China's first independently established Railway. Jeme Tien Yow was well-known to all over the world. For his contributions to railroad engineering in China, Jeme Tien Yow was often called the Father of China's Railroad or The father of modern engineering in China. At present there is not any psychology to study the literature of Jeme Tien Yow. In this study, the personality and behavior of the personality and behavior are discussed from the perspective of psychology. It has a certain significance to enrich the research contents of Jeme Tien Yow, broaden the scope of the psychological biography, verify the psychology theory.This study uses content methods, describe word evaluation method and Delphi method and other methods to Jeme Tien Yow's personality and behavior evaluation and analysis. Here are 2 studies in this paper. The first one is quantitative analysis. According to the experts and college students'evaluation of Jeme Tien Yow, his personality constitution is obtained. The second one is qualitative research. Why he expected to save the nation from China Railway? To this end, we used the method of psychobiography to analysis the source of psycho-logical motivation for his Suspenseful question.The conclusions of this paper are as follows. The first conclusion is, the college students and experts in the assessment of the personality of Jeme Tien Yow's personality structure is consistent. Based on historical facts, through combined Method of Historical Documents, Statistical Method, the combinations of quantitative and qualitative analysis, this case study fully analyzed the basic personality of Jeme Tien Yow's. The factor analysis revealed Jeme Tien Yow's personality traits (hardworking, innovate, brave, heartiness, Rigorous etc).The formation and development of Jeme Tien Yow's personality was influenced by various factors. His personality could serve as a strong evidence for the historical events which he participated in.The second conclusions of this paper are as follows, through the analysis of the theory of psychoanalysis, social learning theory, humanism theory and so on, the reasons of their psychological and behavior are analyzed. The Railway career success is the result of interaction between individual and social factors. Why he expected to save the nation from China Railway?The driving force mainly came from the Expression of inferiority complex and the process that sought compensation and pursued excellence for overcoming the low self-esteem.
