This thesis uses Focus Theory to analyze the errors of the overseas students’ Chinese language acquisition. In the middle of 1980s, the Focus Theory was introduced into the Chinese grammar research field, the achievements are mainly concentrate in the Chinese ontology research. It broaden the way of thinking for the study of Chinese as an intermediary language by introducing the Focus Theory into the Chinese teaching as a foreign language, and to do the error analysis about the overseas students’Chinese language acquisition from the angle of Focus. Let’s first collect the error linguistic data from the "The corpus of Sun Yat-sen University’ "Beijing Language and Culture University HSK composition corpus", examination paper and school assignments of the foreign students, to examine and distinguish one by one to find and classify the sentences which have the incorrect focus, and then analyze them with Focus Theory.The main body of this thesis is separated into seven parts.First part:Instruction. It introduce the research origin, contents, methods and value.Second part:literature review. It introduces the research status of the error analysis about the overseas students’Chinese language acquisition.Third part:Focus Theory and the definition of related concepts. This part expatiates the origin of the Focus Theory; the definition, expression technique, classification and the quantity of the Chinese focus.Fourth part:The error analysis of the Chinese general sentence pattern based on Focus Theory. This part uses Focus Theory to analyze the "Order Error" types of the Chinese general sentence patterns. First, introduce the significance of the word order for the Chinese sentences, then explain the relationship among predicate, adverbial and complement, then analyze the errors of the "predicate, adverbial and complement" orders due to the focus problem.Fifth part:Error analysis of several Chinese special sentence patterns based on Focus Theory. This part are mainly relate to the three special sentence patterns of "Ba把”,“Bei被”,“Bi比”To analyze three types of "Ba把”sentence pattern errors from the angle of natural focus:target object continue acting as an object in the predicate, the sentence without non disposal significance acting as the "Ba把’’sentence pattern, has disposal significance and should use the "把sentence pattern but doesn’t use. Seven "Bei被”sentence pattern errors:the agent inverted on the objet position, inverted behind the predicate after "NP", predicate VP as "verb-object phrase" redundance, relationship of administrative subordination removed by mistake, receptor subject follows the object position, pre-pose complement component to take over the accusative position, fear and deliberately avoided to use. Four "Bi比’sentence pattern errors, quantity complement acts as adverbial by mistake in conclusion item, degree adverb misuse in conclusion item, degree adverb misuse in the front of predicate verb with complement structure, should use the "Bi比"sentence pattern but doesn’t use.Sixth part:Error analysis of the Chinese dialogue based on Focus Theory. This part introduces "answer beyond the question" and its error, then use Focus Theory to analyze the errors of wh-question, affirmative-negative question and choose question sentence, finally analyze the error with examples in "the answer beyond the question" Chinese Listening Book for Foreigner (Book Two).Seventh part:peroration. Summary of the full thesis and point out the shortcomings of this thesis" research work.
