A Report On The Translation Of Life Memories Of 1990s In China

With the rapid development of Chinese society and the deepening communication degree after the reform and opening up, the international community demand of China’s information is increasing and more and more foreigners become interested in Chinese culture. More and more cultural contents with rich Chinese characteristics have been known by foreigners through translation, so how to keep the author’s unique language style become particularly important.This report is based on Life Memories of 1990s in China which is the project materials translated in the course of my internship in Beijing Chuangsituoyi Translation Company. This translated text has nineteen thousand words or so, mainly comes from the extract part of a cultural book. Its cultural contents, with rich Chinese characteristics, covers all aspects of people’s life in the 90s. After the translation, this book will also be published, which is of great significance for the communication of traditional Chinese culture.This report is divided into four parts. The first part is the description of the translated text, including the text background, provenance, basic components, language style and translating procedure. The second part mainly summarizes the text significance from three aspects, for example, the significance of cultural transmission, the significance of genre promotion and the significance of translation ability. The third part which is the focus of this report, mainly summarizes the basic method of related text translation by combining the theories and skills and makes the specific case analysis from the level of words and sentences. The fourth part, through the thinking of the whole translation process, summaries the problems, experiences and some thoughts.
