A Report On The Translation Of "Norm Transition And Identity Re-creation:Reconstruction Of Rising Strategy Path In No Sovereign-Death Era"

This report is a case study of the C-E translation of an academic paper "Norm Transition and Identity Re-creation:Reconstruction of the Rising Strategy Path in No Sovereign-Death Era". It discusses the difficulties encountered in translating the academic paper and relevant translation methods.The report consists of five parts:introduction to the translation task, description of the translation process, theoretical guidance, case analysis and conclusion. Firstly, the author of the report describes the translation task, including requirements of the entrusting party, introduction to the paper she translated and the significance of the task. She then introduces her preparations and the translation process, including searching terminology, understanding backgrounds, translating and proofreading. In the next chapter, the author of the report introduces Plain English as the theoretical support and explains the significance of adopting Plain English in translation. The essence of the report is the case analysis. In this part, the author of the report describes some translation difficulties in translating terms, long and complex sentences as well as understanding the source text, during which she analyzes both the source and target texts and discusses methods and skills to deal with these difficulties under the guidance of the basic principles of Plain English. The last part is the conclusion, in which the author reflects on translator’s competence and requirements of the entrusting party, in the hope of that she can do a better job when dealing with the same type of texts in the future.
