China has achieved great development in recent years. Therefore, there is a high demand for diplomatic interpreting. To cope with increasing challenges and growing difficulties of diplomatic interpreting, people begin to related research, scholars from both China and abroad have been doing extensive theoretic and practical studies.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, the thesis analyzed the difficulties of diplomatic interpreting and summarized the corresponding coping strategies, using Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the Boao Forum for Asia in 2015 as an example.The Interpretive Theory of Translation is the first systematic theory in the international interpreting community. And it has significant impact on the formation and the development of international interpreting research. Based on the interpretive theory, the aim of any kind of interpreting is the transmission of meaning.In the case analysis chapter, the author selected and discussed some typical examples in detail. A series of difficulties arising during the process of interpreting are discussed, including proverb, figure of speech, classical poem, and political and economic terms. In the diplomatic speeches, lecturers tend to tap into the essence of Chinese culture, like idioms and ancient prose is inevitable. In order to pursue the neat in form, the spokesman may also use rhetoric to achieve the goal of beauty in form. Interpreters should be very careful in translating political and economic vocabularies, not only by mastering the proper words and politically sensitive vocabularies in the international, but also knowing economic and political words with Chinese characteristics, for the purpose of avoiding error.The thesis summarizes the strategies for coping with difficulties in interpreting by analyzing the sample speech, in turns of syntactic transformation, logical reasoning, information integration and interpretation. These strategies are neither isolated, nor fixed. Interpreter may adopt different strategies to improve interpreting quality.
