With the rapid development of network technology, the ecological environment has undergone dramatic social changes,。 A series of sub-culture phenomenon appeared on the network. But for network subculture’s characteristics and morphology, academia does not have a unified conclusion. Because of different perspectives, and network sub-culture will evolve as time goes by, it is difficult to make a precise answer on the characteristics of a sub-culture of Network. However, as one of the Internet phenomenon, "grassroots carnival" can help us get a glimpse of some forms and characteristics of network subculture in the new media context.The behavior, identity and language of Grassroots dovetailed with the characteristics of subcultures. Anonymity and openness of the network, breaking the silence situation of grassroots,Make they become the most active and large groups on network where they spread their ideas, create their own cultural field, compete to the mainstream values and cultural domination. Therefore, it is reasonable on the perspective of network subculture to resolve the phenomenon of "grassroots carnival". In addition, through the network of grass-roots carnival phenomenon, we can not only broaden the understanding of network subculture, but also study how it influence social mainstream values.This paper consists of six chapters. The first chapter describes the social change caused by the development of the Internet, and stressed the value of "grassroots carnival" phenomenon research. Overviews the relevant literature, summarize the existing research results in this filed, and describes the purpose and methods in this paper.The second chapter, which starts with the evolution of the subculture concept and reveals some of the key attributes of the subculture, expounds the research status of Network subculture, as well as under the new media context of general features, and the introduction of Bakhtin’s carnival theory of square to grassroots explain carnival spirit of the character.
