A Survey On The Combination Of Correlative Marks "Eryou" In Different Aspects

Correlative mark can connect words, phrases and clauses. The combination of correlative marks has become an important phenomenon in modern Chinese, which not only can perform connection function but also expresses complex meaning in a sentence. To enrich the study on correlative mark especially the combination of correlative marks, we probe deep into the usage of "Er you" in respect to its grammatical, meaning and pragmatic characteristic.Chapter one is an introduction part which generally illustrates the research background, current study, research significance and research method. The study investigates "eryou" from the traditional linguistic perspective, which is based on previous research results, statistical analysis, historical study in a static and dynamic way.Chapter two elaborates on "er" and "you" and the function of "er you" in both ancient and modern Chinese. What’s more, it defines "er you" from the angle of lexicalization and examines the mechanism of "eryou".Chapter three illustrates grammatical features of "p eryou q" by analyzing the inner and outer grammatical characteristic of "p eryou q".Chapter four investigates the semantic function of "eryou" from the perspective of semantic function such as coordinating relation, adversative relation, Causal relation and so on.Chapter five inspects the pragmatic value of "eryou". It studies the common and special pragmatic features of the combination of correlative marks by exploring which context "eryou" the lies in, its discourse function and Expression effect, and the order of words before and after "eryou".Chapter six summarizes major finding and discussion in this thesis, points out the innovation and shortcomings of it and provides implications for future survey.
