The famous psychologist Erikson made eight stage theory of personality development, in which he noted that the main task of adolescence is to develop a good self-identity. The development of self-identity is a lifetime content, and is also a sign of mental health. The current research is more theoretical study, did not involve specific and applicable intervention studies, while college students are in the mental delay period. It is necessary to explore a concrete and effective way of counseling to guide and consult for mental health in Universities. This study selected the Satir Model group guidance as intervention to the development of self-identity development in college students, which aimed to investigate the effectiveness of intervention. Researchers conducted the pre-intervention studies before formal intervention, which aimed to revise and improve group programs, as well as exercise and improve the ability of the group leader. In formal intervention study, the researchers choose 24 Zhejiang Normal University students as research subjects, including 12 in the experimental group, which participated in a two-month total of eight times in the Satir mode group guidance,12 in the control group, which didn’t participate in any intervention. Formal intervention study adopted experimental research methods, collecting pre-test and post-test data to investigate the effectiveness of the Satir mode intervention, and collecting interviews, group feedback sheet, and observation record as qualitative evaluation. The results showed that the experiment group members was significantly higher than the control group in the total level of self-identity,present commitment and aspiration of future commitment, which proved the effectiveness of the Satir model intervention to the self-identity development of college students. The researchers further explored efficiency factor of the Satir Model and found the base element of the Satir model was the key therapeutic factors to improve the formation of self-identity.
