On Interpreter’s Subjectivity In Liaison-escorting Interpreting

Liaison-escort interpreting is the most frequently and wildly used in the world and now playing an increasingly important role in China as foreign interactions surge.However, its significance is not fully acknowledged and interpreters are constantly faced with difficulties arising from interpreters’ subjectivity in real-life practices.Traditional translation theories emphasize faithfulness and advocate the invisibleness of translators. In fact, however, both translators and interpreters play an active part in translation and interpreting activities.Therefore, this thesis aims at analyzing the interpreters’ subjectivity in liaison-escort interpreting through case study. And it applies three key concepts of Bourdieu’s theory of practice, namely field, habitus and capital. In this practice report, three cases of my previous liaison-escort interpreting practices are analyzed.And by examining the problems and phenomenon in three cases, the report is attempted to shed light on the interpreter’s subjectivity from the perspective of field,habitus and capital respectively, hoping to facilitate interpreting practices and teaching.
