Tactics Adopted In Escort Interpreting From The Perspective Of Interpreters’ Subjectivity

With the deepening process of globalization, there has been constant communication between different cultures, thus, as an important means of cross-cultural communication, interpreting has attracted more and more attention. Though interpreting comprises consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting, the former is more widely used in the cross-cultural activities. While more and more academic studies focus on consecutive interpreting, the issue of the interpreter’s subjectivity of escort interpreting has barely been probed into.This thesis first illustrates the concept and four characteristics of escort interpreting, then takes the issue of the interpreter’s subjectivity in escort interpreting into analysis and points out that the interpreter is the subject in escort interpreting. Then it further analyzes the factors that restrict the interpreter’s subjectivity and what escort interpreters can do to give a full play to the subjectivity:the interpreter can adopt different interpreting tactics so as to enhance the quality of escort interpreting.It is shown by this thesis that the interpreter plays a vital role in the interpreting process. However, the subjectivity is restricted by some subjective and objective elements such as ideology, cultural differences and language competence. Combined with the author’s own interpretation experience or cooperation with other interpreters, the thesis points out that interpreters should demonstrate the subjectivity in accordance with different occasions, and finally concludes some interpreting tactics such as literal interpretation, analogy, addition and so on, thus better promoting the mutual communication between different cultures.
