Along with economic globalization and integration, countries are becoming more and more interconnected with each other. Therefore, there is a growing need for interpreting. Compared with simultaneous interpreting, consecutive interpreting is more widely used in cross-cultural activities, and escort interpreting is the most common way. There are a lot of studies focusing on consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting, while discussions about subjectivity in escort interpreting are relatively scarce. Therefore, the writer tried to probe into the tactics adopted in the escort interpreting from the perspective of the interpreter’s subjectivity by analyzing one escort interpreting case. This thesis starts from illustrating definition and types of interpreting, definition and characteristics of escort interpreting, and then discusses the interpreter’s subjectivity. After analyzing the constraints to the interpreter’s subjectivity, namely cultural background, the language itself, the speaker and listener’s presence, the immediacy of the interpreting, and interpreter’s bilingual language competence, this thesis finally explores, with reflections on the writer’s real experience, a way to give a full play to the subjectivity, which is to adopt all kinds of tactics, such as literal interpretation, analogy, addition and so on, so as to improve the quality of escort interpreting.
