| “Leave – Return†is a behavior-oriented plot, which is mostly applied in the educated youth novels in the new period, such as the “A Storm Coming Tonight †by Liang Xiaosheng,“The Story of going to the Countryside†by Shi Tiesheng, “Night in Green†and “North River†by Zhang Chengzhi,Wang Anyi’s “The 69 th Session Middle School Students†and “End of the Train â€, Kong Jiesheng’s “The Southern Shore â€, Han Shaogong’s “ Writings by Day and Night †and “Trees in the Distanceâ€, “The Debt†and “The Wasted Time†from Ye Xin, Zhang Kangkang’s “No Confessionâ€and “Take Me Away†and so on. “Leave – Return†narrative mode can reflect the life and emotion of educated youth effectively. Under this mode, these literatures show a panoramic view of life and emotional experiences of educated youth, and recorded the different choices made by educated youth under the collision among different cultural values. This dissertation explored the “leave – return†narrative mode applied in educated youth novels in the new period, and analyzes the connotation of the theme, the narrative characteristics, the value and the limitations reflected by this mode.This dissertation can be divided into three parts, namely introduction, main body(four chapters), and conclusion.The introduction part briefly introduces the related research status of youth fiction, and explains the reason and value.The first chapter mainly discusses basic types of “leave – return†youth novel narrative mode. Narrative mode of “leave- return†in the educated youth novels can be roughly divided into three types, one is “leave- return†type, focused on the performance of the educated youth in the face of disillusionment after frustration; the other is “return-leave again†type, particularly describe the educated youth back to the city after the discomfort, disappointment and confusion of sense and memory of the distant country; one is “leave-return-leaveâ€, mainly described about the educated youth in rustication movement after the end of the spiritual home and “ocean jump â€experience.The second chapter focuses on the analysis of the theme of “leave-returnâ€. “Leave – Return†of the narrative reveals the rich connotation of the theme: depicting the fate of a generation of educated youth, revealing the interaction of educated youth to the countryside and farmers, urban and rural two values of the collision, and overseas Chinese and foreign culture different and reflecting a generation of educated youth to rural society, the spirit of self fate and ideal, value pursuit of the thinking, or the countryside ideology movement, judgment, indicating the rustication movement position and attitude.The third chapter mainly analyzes the narrative characteristics of “leave-returnâ€. The related theory embodies “leave – return†of the educated youth novels with plot structure, narrative person, narrative perspective, narrative language, analyzes and discusses from many aspects the narrative features, narrative function and the narrative effect.The fourth chapter clarifies the value and limitation of the narrative of “leave-returnâ€. The value of the narrative mode is a fine display of a generation of educated youth’s life course with the new edge image in the literary history. The narrative mode also reflects Lu Xun’s local novels which created the “leave-return†mode of inheritance and development. And its limitations is reflected in contemplation of the one-way educated youth perspective based on the life of the educated youth, ignoring the farmer’s perspective and other perspectives of contemplation.
